WAYLAND: Thomas Wentworth Morss, 59, of Wayland died in a traffic accident in Boston early Wednesday morning, July 11, 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Shelby Calvert Morss; three daughters: Peyton (25), Phoebe (22), and Paige (19) all of Wayland; his mother, Mary Morss of Wayland; his father, Everett Morss and his wife Pamela Morss of Magnolia; brothers, Everett Morss of Geneseo, NY, Andrew R. Morss of Denver, CO and William Mann and his wife Lisa Mann of Hamilton; sisters, Esther Morss of Dearborn, MI and Heather Outlaw of Austin, TX; his mother-in-law Judy Calvert of The Villages, FL; his brothers-in-law Stanley Calvert and his partner Dana Kelly of Washington D.C., and Mark Calvert and his wife Sharon Calvert of St. Petersburg, FL, as well as 15 nieces and nephews.
Tom graduated from Deerfield Academy, where he was Head Boy and the recipient of the Deerfield Cup, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a Morehead Scholar. He received his MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration where he met the love of his life and wife of 30 years.
Tom’s career in commercial banking spanned many roles and several continents including assignments in Mexico and Latin America, where he was able to utilize his Spanish and Portuguese, as well as London and Singapore. He was a 30 year veteran of Bank of America in Boston.
Tom was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend who will be remembered for his wit, intelligence, authenticity, anachronistic use of hats and duct tape, and the boundless love for his family. Tom was an avid golfer, skier, snowboarder, hockey player and Boston sports fan who watched all close games standing directly in front of the television. He was a proud member and founder, while living in Hampstead, England, of the Sunday Night Game Films Society and was the Poet of Record of the HBS ’87 Section C International Golf Team of Rivals. An enthusiastic raconteur, Tom was famous for ribald poetry and a ready repertoire of jokes.
Tom had a close family and treasured his daughters, family dinners and celebrations of all sorts. He will be missed beyond words.
