Boleslaus V. 'Boley' Slejzer

Boleslaus V. Slejzer, 89, of Salem died peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Lahey Hospital in Burlington with his family by his side. Boley was the husband of Helen (Sobiesielski) Slejzer with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Adam and Mary (Piecuch) Slejzer, and was a lifelong member of the St. John the Baptist Polish Church,where he attended the parish school and sang in the choir. He was a graduate of Salem High School Class ‘47 where he was a news reporter for the varsity sports teams. Upon his graduation, he began his career as a leatherworker at Carr Industries in Peabody. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and began working at John Flynn & Sons in Salem where he remained until its closing in 1988. He was a member of the Salem Hospital maintenance department until his retirement in 1993. He was an avid sports fan who followed local sports teams. He was proud of and celebrated his Polish heritage. Boley was a member of the PLAV Post #56.
In addition to his wife, he leaves 4 children – Catherine Carroll and her husband, Kevin, of North Andover, Patricia Stueve, and her husband John, of Peabody, Michael, and his wife Barbara of Bradford and Kenneth of Salem. He also leaves 12 grandchildren – Patrick and Michael Carroll, Danielle (Stueve) Sabelli, Joshua, Rachel, Zachary and Sarah Stueve, Andrew and Anna Slejzer, Jessica, Kristen and Casey Slejzer and a great grandson, Liam. He is also survived by his sister Irene Morrissey of Peabody and predeceased by his parents, his brother Rev. Ferdinand E. Slejzer, his sister Amelia Sickorz and grandson Adam Slejzer.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, June 7 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem. His funeral will take place at St. John the Baptist Church, 17 Church St., Peabody on Friday at 10:00 am. Internment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery, Margin Street, Salem.
