Joseph P. "Glen" DiVasta

Joseph P. DiVasta “Glen” passed away peacefully at home on May 1st. He was 94. Born and raised in Somerville, Joe was the son of the late Pasquale and Celia (Grecco) DiVasta. Joe served in the Army during World War II and also participated in the Army of Occupation. Upon his return from the military, his friends called him Glen because of his resemblance to the famed band leader. Joseph worked in the meat packing industry throughout his life. He also did house painting and had a great talent for carpentry. Married to Lorraine (Bernicchi) for 71 years, Joe and Lorraine danced several nights a week and until recently still went out dancing every Saturday night. They could dance to anything and didn’t have to wait to catch the beat. They were naturals. Glen was a devoted family man, he belonged to the Arlington Men’s club and the Somerville Elks.

In addition his beloved Lorraine, he leaves his children: Jeanne DiVasta of Chelsea, Corinne Janetakos and her husband Dino of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Woburn, the late Paul DiVasta and his surviving wife Renee of Atkinson, NH. He was a loving grandfather to Brian, Christi, Melanie, Michael, Amanda, Laura and a loving great-grandfather to James, Alexis, Sydney, Nicholas and Anthony. Joseph was also a dear brother to Lydia Labadini, Salvatore DiVasta and the late Esther Helbert.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday May 8th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Agnes Church, 30 Medford St., Arlington, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at St Paul Cemetery, Arlington. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home on Monday 4 - 7 PM.

The DiVasta family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Somerville Multicultural Center for the care they provided during Mr. DiVasta's illness.
