Margaret Mary (O’Hearn) McCarthy, a life-long resident of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, April 25th at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was 95.

Born in Melrose, she was raised in Medford, and was a cherished daughter of the late John and Miriam (Larkin) O'Hearn. Margaret attended local schools and graduated from Medford High School.

A homemaker, Margaret raised seven children with much love and care. She was an adoring Nana to all her grandchildren. With great devotion, Margaret cared for her husband, who suffered with early onset Alzheimer’s for ten years.

Margaret was a past member of The Ladies Sodality and The Mother’s Club of St. Francis Parish, both of Medford. She was an avid reader end enjoyed mystery novels. Margaret always kept abreast of current events.

Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Joseph F. McCarthy, who passed away in 1991. The two were married on April 12, 1947 at St. Joseph Church in Medford. Together, they shared 44 years of loving marriage. She was the devoted mother of Elizabeth Carter and her late husband Roger of Somerville, Joseph McCarthy and his wife Marianne of Medford, Patricia Saunders of Medford, Elaine McCarthy and her husband Paul True of Cambridge, Margaret Dennis and her husband John of Winchester, Barbara Grant and her husband John of Medford, James McCarthy and his wife Lisa of Medford. Margaret was the loving grandmother of Jeffrey Saunders and his wife Maria of Tewksbury, Peter and David Saunders, both of Methuen, Joseph McCarthy and his wife Bridget of VA, Michael McCarthy and his fiancée Jennifer Halliday of Somerville, John Grant of Medford, Christopher Grant and his fiancée Chelsea Flores of NY, Colleen Grant of Medford, Edward True of Cambridge, Abigail and Nathan McCarthy, both of Medford, Tessa and Meagan Dennis, both of Winchester. She was the loving great grandmother of Adeline, Ronan and Alexander Saunders, all of Quincy, and the dear sister of Barbara Lepore and her husband Lawrence of Arlington. Margaret was preceded in death by her siblings: Edward O’Hearn and his wife Janet of Medford, Regina MacDonald and her husband John of Holden, Elizabeth “Betty” King and her husband Eugene of Medford, Faith Belluche and her husband Henry of Woburn. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Monday, April 30th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 through 7 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Margaret’s name may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
