Obituary


Antonia D. (Coito) Saraiva age 98 of Brockton, died peacefully Saturday April 7, 2018 at the home of her daughter Betty after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Michael Saraiva.

Antonia was born and educated in Gouveia, Portugal a daughter of the late Thomas and Lucy Coito. When she was 14 years old she came to the United States and lived most of her life in Brockton. She was a stay at home mother who was devoted to the care of her home and family. Previously, Antonia worked as a stitcher in the leather trade at C.V. Rubin Shoes in Campello and other establishments in the city.

In her free time she enjoyed gardening around her yard, knitting, and crocheting, playing scratch tickets, babysitting her grandchildren and cooking. She especially enjoyed making Portuguese meals for her family.

Antonia was the mother of Gilda “Jane” Cribben of Brockton, Alice “Betty” Baker of Whitman, Ed Saraiva and his wife Mary of Brockton, Irene Saba and her husband Mike of Brockton and the late Michael and Robert Saraiva. She was the sister of Dalinda Thornton of California and the late Tom and Henry Coito and Mary Sczcepucha. She is survived by 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great great grand daughter.

A Funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Church 433 West St., Brockton on Thursday 10am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. Donations in Antonia’s name may be made to Old Colony Hospice 321 Manley St., West Bridgewater.
