James J. Morris, Sr.

NATICK: James J. Morris, Sr., 92, died peacefully in the care and comfort of his son on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Cambridge on August 5, 1925 the son of the late John Morris and Catherine (Egan) Morris.
He was the beloved husband for 55 years of the late Winifred T. (Byrne) Morris who died on September 15, 2005.
James is survived by his devoted son Richard J. Byrne of Natick. Loving grandfather of Hailie J. Morris of Sandwich and Jameson C. Morris and his wife Tsveta of Sandwich. Brother of William R. Stringham, Jr and his wife Marilyn B. Stringham of Natick. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Father of the late James J. Morris, Jr, who died on May 31, 2008. Brother of the late Thomas Morris, Catherine Chandler, John Morris and Joseph Morris.
James has been a resident of Natick for over 65 years and spent his formative years in Cambridge. He graduated from Brighton High School and then enlisted into the United States Army as a TEC4 during World War II and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater.
He retired in 1996 as a Motorman with the MBTA, a position he served well for over 48 years. Prior to joining the MBTA, he was associated with John W. Broderick Trucking in Allston for several years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 25 for many years.
James enjoyed gardening and his home in Natick was always filled inside and out with gorgeous flowers which he grew in his gardens. He loved to play bingo in the area and especially at Saint Linus Church. In his earlier years, he was a great supporter of his son Jimmy’s hockey endeavors with the Natick Comets. In high school, James was an excellent baseball player. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 9:00 am followed by his Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am at Saint Patrick’s Church, East Central Street (rte. 135), Natick.
Interment will follow in the Morris family lot in Saint Patrick Cemetery in Natick.
