Marion Rock Whelan, 88, of Louisville passed away peacefully on March 17, 2018 at Sts Mary & Elizabeth Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on October 4th, 1929 to Robert C. & Aliene Rock.
She married the love of her life, Cliff Whelan and was a wonderful mother to her five children. She faithfully moved with her husband’s career living in many locations around the U.S. before returning to Louisville in 1965.
She was a long time member of St Timothy Catholic Church and a current member of St Peter the Apostle. She was a woman of strong faith and passed this on to her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 40 years, James “Cliff” Whelan; a second husband, Dominick Zareo; daughter-in-law, Shirley Sadler Whelan; a sister, Gloria Vogt; and a brother, Robert “Buddy” Rock.
She is survived by her children, Linda Cooper (Henry), of St Simon Island, GA, Larry Whelan (Marion),Michael Whelan(Karen), Ronald Whelan (Jeanne) & Shirley Evans (Bruce) all of Louisville; nine grandchildren, Kim Helton, Andrea Whelan, Ashli Shain, Devon Gilbert, Brittany Whelan, Nicholas Evans, Angela Kaufman, Caroline McGaha & Katie Todd; seven great grandchildren, Dayton, Lance, Austin, Avery, Eliana, Bellamy & Wesley.
Visitation will be held 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Hwy. with burial in Bethany Cemetery.
There will be a Memorial Mass to celebrate her life at a later date.

“Mamma” was truly loved and will be missed by many.
