Obituary

Margaret R. “Margy” (Lawton) (Doucet) Ofria, age 96, of N. Chelmsford, formerly of Glastonbury, CT, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at her home. She was the wife of the late Lester Doucet and Joseph Ofria. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Christine (Twohig) Lawton. Margaret was a graduate of St. Patrick’s School and the former Modern School of Fashion and Design in Boston. For many years she had been employed as a clothing designer for William Carter Company in Needham Heights. Margaret was in the Women’s Marine Corps from August 4, 1943 to November 7, 1945, stationed mostly at Camp Pendleton in California.

Margaret is survived by her step children Joseph Doucet of Ridgefield, CT, Marianne Singewald of W. Reading, CT, Joni Mullane of N. Chelmsford, MA and Paul Ofria of Glastonbury, CT; a brother Richard Lawton of Framingham and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Judge James R. Lawton, Frederick Lawton, Fr. Thomas Lawton, CSC, Mary O’Malley and Sheila Stewart.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Saturday at 8am for a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church at 9am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
