Sarah R. “Sally” (Gasse) Chouinard age 93 of Wareham, formerly of East Falmouth and Brockton, died Tuesday February 13, 2018 at the Tremont Healthcare in Wareham. She was the wife of the late William A. Chouinard.
She was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Otis) Gasse and was a 1943 graduate of Brockton High School. Following graduation she enlisted as a WAVE in the US Navy during WWII where she was a teletype operator.
Following her military discharge, Sarah attended the art school program at Boston University. She was a gifted artist who worked with many types of mediums. She was also a talented gardener. Sarah had been a nurse’s aide for many years in the Brockton and Falmouth areas.
She loved being outside and in her later years tackled many challenges. She learned to ski at the age of 65 and participated in other outdoor sports. She also enjoyed traveling. Most important in her life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored.
Sarah was the mother of Donna Lee Blanchard and her husband Kenneth of Bourne, Annette Laing of Stoughton wife of the late Donald and Suzanne Katz of E. Falmouth wife of the late Stephen. She also leaves 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Sarah was the sister of Beverly Hamilton of W. Bridgewater and the late Elizabeth, Evelyn, Marguerite, Dorothy, June, Gloria, Mildred, Janet, Harry, Leo, Thomas and James Gasse. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Monday 9:30-11am immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.
