Obituary

Jack O. Bender, 94, of Litchfield, NH, died Sunday February 11, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Williamsport, PA on October 31, 1923, a son of the late OE and Mildred (Graham) Bender, Jr. He had been a resident of Litchfield for the past five years. Mr. Bender graduated from S. Williamsport High School, serving as the 1941 Class Vice President, and lived most of his life in Loyalsock Township, PA, where he served as a township auditor for many years.
He was a US Army Air Corp. veteran in WWII serving in the South Pacific with the 13th “Jungle” Battalion. Mr. Bender had been employed as a meat cutter and clerk for over 45 years. He was a member of the Faxon-Kenmar United Methodist Church and had served as Church treasurer. An 11 Gallon member of the American Red Cross, he also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program of Lycoming County, and loved gardening.

He is survived by daughter, Gail Battaglia and her husband David of Litchfield; his grandson, Giovanni F. Battaglia of Litchfield; and his brother, Joseph L. Bender and his wife Lois of S. Williamsport, PA; He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Harrison) Bender in January of 2011.

Calling hourswere held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. Services in Pennsylvania will be coordinated by Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, PA.
