Charles Allen “Charlie” Beck, 74, died February 10, 2018 in the Hosparus Unit at Norton’s Hospital. Charlie was born June 1, 1943 to Sopha Huttsell Beck and Louis Calvin Beck.
He was the first of four children born from this union. His brother Louis Beck (Grace) of Louisville, sisters Terry Frerman of Clarksville and Julia Warf (Charles) of Sellersburg all survive him.
He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1961. At the age of 16 he met his future wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Freeland Beck, on a blind date. They were married in 1964 at West Louisville United Church of Christ.
Charlie attended Western Kentucky University and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He worked for B.F. Goodrich and Oxy Vinyl until his retirement. In his spare time he loved to garden, travel, camp and make pot holders (which he started doing as a boy). In his retirement years, he became very active in his church, Chapel Hill United Church of Christ.
Charlie was the father of two sons, Dr. Charles Allen Beck, Jr, DO, (Catherine) of Indianapolis and David William Beck (Sherri) of Lebanon Junction. Charlie was the proud “Papaw” of Brianne Orien Beck, Phillip William Beck, Tabitha Ann Beck, all of Lebanon Junction, and Poppy Isabella Beck of Te Awamutu, New Zealand. Two grandchildren have been adopted.
Charlie was a friend, wonderful husband, and great father. He was overjoyed when he welcomed his daughters-in-law into the family. But, he was happiest when he was surrounded by his grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Highway on Wednesday from Noon until 8 P.M. Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday at Chapel Hill United Church of Christ at 2307 Embassy Lane with one hour visitation prior to service . The service will be conducted by Rev. Cindy Cushman.
