George Pastir, 89, of Olyphant died Wednesday in Regional Hospital, Scranton. He was the loving husband of the former Betty Sofranko. The couple had been married for 66 years.

Born in Jessup, son of the late Stephen Pastir and Mary Kolsovsky, he was a graduate of Jessup High School and attended Johnson University. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish in Olyphant. He was also an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society at Holy Ghost Parish. He also belonged to the Catholic Golden Age.

He was employed as a manager of Baumel's Dress Co. before retirement. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was also a member of Raymond Henry Post 327 American Legion, Olyphant, and Veteran of Foreign Wars in Peckville. He was chairman of the Mid Valley School Board Authority and was with the Fire Department of Hose Co. 2 in Olyphant.

He was a loving and caring husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was also an avid gardener. He spent a lot of time with his granddaughter and great-granddaughter whom he loved very much. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and all who knew and loved him.

The family is very grateful for the medical care and treatment provided by Dr. Michael Rogan throughout the years.

Also surviving are a daughter, Lorraine Torres; a granddaughter, Jennifer Gray; and two great-granddaughters, Victoria and Willow; also surviving are two sisters, Ann Lucas and Mary Novajosky; among other family.

He was preceded in death by his six brothers, Andrew, Edward, Stephen, Joseph, John and Michael.

A funeral Mass will be conducted Monday at 9:30 in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant. Interment, Holy Ghost Cemetery.
