Eugene J. Solimene, of Medford, formerly of Cambridge, died on Friday, January 26th. He was 90. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York he was the son of the late Francis and Josephine (Orlando) Solimene.

Eugene was an elder and deacon for over 30 years, a dedicated member of the Cornerstone Church formerly of Cambridge now of Belmont and the New Baptist Church of Medford. He enjoyed teaching Sunday school, and volunteering in the Boy’s Brigade Youth organization.

When Eugene was not participating in church activities he loved to build and fly model airplanes, soaring above on over thirty feet of string with wing spans reaching over five feet wide. He enjoyed fishing, boating and spending overnights on Plum Island with his children.

Eugene was a radio engineer he worked on submarines while enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII.

Eugene was the beloved husband of the late Ruth (Belbin) Solimene. He was the devoted father of Stephen R. Solimene and his wife Maria of Arlington, Carol Ann Ortiz of Malden and the late Eugene F. Solimene, Janet R. Downing and Paul Solimene. The loving grandfather of Jennifer, Deborah, Keri Ann, Erin, Paul, Ryan, AJ and Ashleigh. Loving great-grandfather of Steve, Baylor, Logan and Jameson.

A funeral service will be celebrated in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Monday, January 29th at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 – 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial and military honors at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
