WAYLAND: Derek Harry Ball, 86, died peacefully on January 4, 2018 in West Yarmouth.
He was born in London, England on September 1, 1931 the son of the late Harry Ball and Mary (Smith) Ball.
Derek is survived by his loving wife Eleanor Justine (Fischer) Ball. Devoted father of D. Michael Ball of East Sandwich; Douglas Ball of Centennial, CO and Edward “Ted” Ball of Overland Park, KS. Also survived by seven grandchildren, three nieces and four nephews.
Derek had a long and distinguished career with the United States Government as a Research Chemist. He was a member of the American Chemical Society; Chemical Society of London; National Academy of Science and the National Research Council.
He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be lovingly remembered by everyone. Derek was a gourmet cook, loved cricket, tennis and cycling and was a longtime soccer coach.
Memorial Visitations will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte. 30), Wayland with a Celebration of his life to begin at 11:00 am.
Interment in the Ball family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland will follow the service.
