Obituary

Mr. Francis Joseph Voss, Jr., resident of Andover and beloved husband of Barbara (Cangiano) Voss, passed away at the EN Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford on Tuesday evening, January 2, 2018. He was 74 years old.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on January 30, 1943, he was the beloved son of the late Francis J., Sr. and Catherine A. (MacIsaac) Voss. Frank grew up in Medford, attended St. Joseph’s School, and was a member of the 1960 Matignon High School graduating class. He proudly served with the United States Army Reserve Unit 513 Maintenance Battalion during the Vietnam War. Frank was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst School of Engineering, worked as Director of Worldwide Engineering for Polaroid Corporation for more than 28 years, and as Site Operations Manager for Johnson & Johnson during his early retirement years. He was a regular communicant in the Catholic Church. Frank and Barbara were happily married for 39 years.

Fran had many hobbies. In his youth he loved auto racing and raced for NASCAR; his passion for autos remained. He was also a lifelong skier and avid yachtsman, spending countless hours on his beloved sailboat, the Quest, with family and friends. For over thirty years, he was a member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop. Until his recent hospitalization, Frank was active with the North End VFW Post 144. His hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm for all life offers will be dearly missed.

Besides his beloved wife Barbara, he is survived by his loving son, Eric Voss of Seven Hills Pediatric Center in Groton; sisters; June and her husband, Arthur St. Andre, of Southborough and Margaret and her husband, Arthur Brennan, of Medford; sisters-in-law Linda Cangiano, Pamela Johnson and husband Thomas, Malvena Baxter & Paul Blake; brother-in-law Albert Cangiano, DMD and wife, Maryjane; and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Monday, January 8, 2018, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Sunday, January 7, 2018, from 2 to 6 PM. Interment will be held in the West Parish Garden Cemetery in Andover. Donations in Frank's memory may be made to the Seven Hills Pediatric Center, 22 Hillside Avenue, Groton, MA 01450 or to the Dementia Unit at the EN Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730.
