Obituary


Our beloved Mercilia Maitre, age 94, passed away on December 11th, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born on December 25, 1922 in St. Marc, Haiti to late parents Mercegrace Luc and Israel Luc. She was the only child. She married her beloved companion Frederic E. Maitre' on August 7, 1940. She was a seamstress and a great cook. She worked at chocolate factory. Her passion for cooking and sewing contributed to many in need. In Haiti, she would welcome many to her home and provided unselfish love and care. Mercilia had one child but she took care of many children in her community. She cared for them like they were family. She also loved her church family. She was one of the first members of First Haitian Baptist Church of Boston. Through recent years, her physical and mental ability regressed. She was not able to attend church but Mercilia never stopped singing, praising, and praying. She always devoted her time to God. Her life was full of loving deeds and compassion.

Mercilia lived in Boston, MA for 50 years. She moved to the U.S. in 1968. She was a loving wife to Frederic E Maitre, a loyal mother to Germanie Herard and Son-in-law Bertaud Y. Herard, and a mother figure to Beatrice Kebreau, Ketlyne Cezar, and Carmelle Jacques. She was a committed grandmother and is survived by grandchildren Martine Antoine and her husband Carl E. Antoine, Betty Nazaire and her husband Hilaire C. Nazaire, J. Philippe Herard and daughter Olivia J. Herard, E. Frederick Herard and his wife Nadine Herard. She is also survived by her 11 great-grandchildren: Noah E. Antoine, Naomi G. Antoine, Nathanael C. Antoine, Joshua H. Nazaire, Justin E. Nazaire, Jared Y. Nazaire, Jayden I. Nazaire, Olivia S. Herard, Amelia S. Herard, Celia W. Herard, and Abraham F. Herard and other relatives.
Mercilia lived a full blessed life and will always be loved and never forgotten!
The family will receive visitors at the First Haitian Baptist Church, 397 Blue Hill Ave on Saturday December 23 from 9-10 am. Followed by a funeral service at 10.
Interment will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Roslindale
