Melchin, Ruth U. (Winn), of Milton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2017. Born in Boston, Mrs. Melchin grew up in Dorchester. A loving and supportive wife and mother, she raised her family in Milton and had resided there for many years. Mrs. Melchin was a former President and longtime supporter and benefactor of “BACS”, the Boston Archdiocese Choir School. After raising her family she attended U. Mass Boston and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in History. The beloved wife of the late Robert A. Melchin, she was the devoted mother of Janet Batouyios of PA, James Melchin, Virginia Connolly and William Melchin, all of Palmer, Julie DePina, Stephen and John Melchin, all of Quincy, Patricia Weinstein of Washington DC, Annmarie Ward of Brewster, Christine Dolan of Rockland, Elizabeth Flaherty of Weymouth and the late Robert A. “Red” Melchin, Jr. She was the cherished grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and dear sister of Margaret Kelly of Hingham and Virginia O’Boy of West Roxbury. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Wednesday, December 27th at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Tuesday, December 26th from 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 507 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
