Loretta T. (Chiarenza) Cox, of Revere, formerly of Boston’s North End and Medford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, December 20th at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was 64.

Born and raised in in Boston, she was a graduate of Charlestown High School. After high school, Loretta worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Tax Examiner until her retirement in April of 2015.

In her spare time, Loretta enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She loved Italian food and her meatballs and pumpkin roll were her signature dishes. Loretta was always the life of the party, vibrant and outgoing. She was a loving and caring person who was to the point and honest. Loretta enjoyed traveling and looked forward to spending her summers with family in Hampstead, New Hampshire. When she was alone, Loretta loved listening to the oldies station on the radio; The Beatles were her favorite band. She also enjoyed watching the cooking show on the Food Network. What Loretta loved most was spending time with her granddaughter and being with family.

Loretta was the beloved wife of Michael J. Cox. They married on October 7, 1973 at St. Stephen's Church, of Boston's North End. Together they shared 44 years of loving marriage. She was the devoted mother of the late Michael Cox, who passed away in 2015, and the loving grandmother of Tina Marie Cox of Woburn. She was a cherished daughter of Concetta (Chiarella) Chiarenza of Medford, and the late Joseph D. Chiarenza. Loretta was the dear sister of MaryAnn Grady and her husband Louis of Leominster, Anthony M. Chiarenza and his wife Katherine, and the late Joseph A. Chiarenza and his surviving wife Geraldine, all of Medford. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be celebrated in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Saturday, December 23rd at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Loretta’s name may be sent to the charitable organization of One’s choice.
