Harris A. "Harry" Marsh, Jr.

BAREFOOT BAY, FL – Harris A. Marsh, Jr., 89, of Barefoot Bay, FL, died on November 19, 2017 at home after a long illness. Harry was born, raised and lived most of his life in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ault in the Atlantic just after World War II and was a member of the Tin Can Sailors. Following his service, he worked as a foreman for 32 years at Wico - The Prestolite Company in West Springfield. He later worked as a supervisor at Savage Arms in Westfield and K&M Electronics in Holyoke, retiring in 1991. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church and a member of the Van Horn Parent’s Association, both in Springfield. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara A. (Wapner) Marsh in 1986; and his daughter, Nancy in 2012. He leaves his children, Linda Patingre of Chicopee, Carol Garvey of Germantown, MD, Richard of Haydenville and Thomas of Enfield, CT; his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert of San Diego, CA; his many nieces nieces and nephews; his longtime companion, Bernice Hassler of Barefoot Bay who graciously cared for him during his illness; her daughter, Linda Toryak; and Linda’s children. His family will receive friends on Saturday morning, December 16, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His Burial with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Prayer Service at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109.
