Obituary


Elsie Ford Carpenter passed peacefully at 10:03 am on Friday, November 24th, 2017.

Born in Manchester, England, Elsie immigrated to the United States with her parents and siblings at the age of two they became naturalized citizens.

Elsie met her now deceased husband, George E., at an Exeter Grange dance. They married on December 24th, 1941 prior to his enlistment in the Army, and had four sons. They lived most of their lives in Western Cranston and both were lifelong members of Faith Presbyterian Church. Elsie began employment at Warwick Shoppers World when her youngest son began preschool, transitioning to work as a teller at Industrial National Bank before retiring as Head Teller after 15 years. Elsie was the oldest surviving member of her family which included her husband George, brother James, and sisters Hilda Yaghian, Blanche Floody and niece Veronica Ford. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter Michelle Carpenter.

She is survived by four sons William A. (Emily Westcott) of Chepachet, RI, Robert R. (Anne) of Fairfax, VA, Neal G. (Mary) of Cumberland, RI and Steven P. (Christine) of Harrisonburg, VA. She was the proud Nana of 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Elsie was a resident of Brookdale Manor, Smithfield, RI, where she had been in the assisted living unit for the past 9 years, transferring to skilled care in December of 2016.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, November 29th from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the Anderson Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. The funeral service will begin there on Wednesday at 11:30 am. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
