Frederick “Freddy” Puorro passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was 77. Born and raised in Medford, he was the son of the late Gerald and Mildred (DeCristoforo) Puorro. After graduating from Medford High School, Freddy worked at his father’s Grocery and Butcher shop in Winthrop. There he learned the fine craft of butchering. He later opened his own grocery store in North Reading, Freddy’s IGA on Main Street. After a successful run, he branched out into the restaurant industry and owned several restaurants featuring seafood, earning the nick name “Freddy the fish”. For nearly 20 years he owned and operated Felicia’s of the North End in Stoneham. He brought the famed eatery from Boston and enjoyed great success in Stoneham. He operated the restaurant until his recent retirement. A devoted husband and father, Freddy worked hard for his family. He had a remarkable personality and whit. He cherished the many friendships he and Phyllis had from their youth. He was a generous and kindhearted man who was grateful and loyal towards all his friends.
