Raymond E. McGrath, age 66, of Norton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 29, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Ellen M. (Newell) McGrath, to whom he was wed for the past thirty-three years.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut on November 8, 1950, he was a loving son of the late William R. and Lillian J. (DeAngelis) McGrath.

Ray grew up in Connecticut and later, along with his family, moved to West Roxbury. He was a graduate of Brighton High School, where he majored in automotive technology and was awarded the Top Automechanic Award from Chrysler Motors.

Since 1979, he had been employed as a shop floor mechanic at the Phoenix Electrical Corporation in Canton, where he also met his future wife Ellen. The couple married later and moved to Norton in 1984.

Ray’s family was truly the center of his life and recently, along with his wife, took a wonderful trip, by way of train, departing from North Conway to Crawford Notch in New Hampshire.

Ray was a WWII history buff who was extremely knowledgeable on the subject of planes, jets and warships. He will always be remembered for his exceptional cooking skills, his remarkable sense of humor and the way in which he could put a smile on someone’s face, regardless of the circumstances.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children William H. McGrath and his companion Teresa Litwinczuk of Taunton and Kimberlee McGrath of Glendale, Rhode Island. He was the adoring grandfather of Jacob and Sydney. He was the dear brother of Brian McGrath of Connecticut, David McGrath of Florida, Vincent McGrath of Florida, Mary O’Keefe of Illinois, Kevin McGrath of New York, Rita McCabe of New York, Beverly McGrath of New York, Nora Marrinan of Connecticut, Margaret Ruff of Connecticut and the late Harold McGrath who lived in Florida. He was the cherished son-in-law of Eunice (Mason) Newell of Douglas and the late Waldron Newell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A service in celebration of his life, along with burial at the Douglas Center Cemetery in Douglas will be held privately at the convenience of his family. Visiting hours are omitted.
