Obituary

Robert H. “Chuck” Checani 90 years old of Natick died Saturday, September 2, 2017, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.

He was the beloved husband of Dolores G. (Freialdenhofen) Checani sharing 56 years of marriage.

Born in Natick in 1927, son of the late Kocho and Evanthia (Kreshpane) Checani who were from Korca, Albainia, Chuck remained a lifelong resident.

Mr. Checani was the former co-owner for thirty-five years of Kentucky Package Store in Natick which he ran with his brother Charles. Following his retirement, he worked as a golf ranger at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis.

Mr. Checani was a graduate of Natick High School Class of 1944 where he was co-captain of the baseball and basketball teams and a graduate of Northeastern University Class of 1948.

“Chuck” was an accomplished golfer known for his smooth swing, friendly competitive spirit and his strict adherence to good sportsmanship. He was a longtime member of the Natick Elks Golf League and played in numerous Natick area charity golf tournaments every year.

He enjoyed classical music, vacationing on Cape Cod, the White Mountains, and spending winters in Florida. Chuck was a member of the Natick Kiwanis Club for over 40 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children: Carolyn Collins and husband John of Natick, Eric Checani of Natick, Gregg Checani and his spouse Sean Hogan of San Jose CA, Kristen Howell and her husband Charles of Framingham, Leslie Fitzpatrick and her husband Glen of Natick, six grandchildren, Matthew, Mitchell and Dillan Collins, Michael and Kelly Fitzpatrick, all of Natick, Robert A. Checani of Los Angeles, CA and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Helen Evangelos, Richard Checani, Theodore Checani and Charles Checani.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday, September 6th at 11:00 A.M. in the Albanian Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 37 Washington Street, Natick.

Burial will follow in Dell Park Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday September 5th from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. in the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street, at Natick Common.
