Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert L. Arnold, a lifelong resident of Pawcatuck, announces his passing on July 15th at the age of 70 years. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Karen, and his children and spouses, Bob Jr. and Emily, Laurie and Russ, Julie and Dan, and Jeff and Annalee. He will also be greatly missed by his eleven grandchildren, Russell, Sophie, Megan, Brooke, Carly, Stella, Jackie, Nathan, Gabby, Ben, and Dylan.

As a journeyman electrician, Bob spent his entire 43-year career with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), mostly with Local 35 in Hartford, but he also spent several years in Arizona, California and Missouri. His unwavering dedication to the union and to his work left an indelible mark on the many electricians he worked with over his career.

Born in 1947 and raised on the Pawcatuck River, Bob was an avid boater. He enjoyed spending his down time and retirement cruising the river, taking trips to Long Island, beaching it with his family at Napatree and Sandy Points, and fishing off Watch Hill. Bob spent years of his childhood working at his father's marina. With life coming full circle, Bob and Karen raised their own children in the house next door to the one Bob grew up in.

Bob led a wonderful life and left an amazing legacy behind that will live on for generations through his family. He would like to thank the staff at L&M Smilow Cancer Center for their care and comfort during the last three years, in particular, Dr. Benjamin Newton and his nursing and administrative staff.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church in Stonington, CT, on Thursday, July 20, at 10:00am, immediately followed by a celebration of his life. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery will follow the reception at 1:15pm. In lieu of flowers, we ask that any donations be made to his two favorite charities, March of Dimes and the Run to Home Base.
