Michael J. Sacuta

SPRINGFIELD – Michael J. Sacuta, 87, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Krytyszyn, Poland (presently Belarus) on October 10, 1929, a beloved son of the late Jozef and Fedora Sacuta. He immigrated to Springfield in 1962. He worked as a machinist at Crane Co. in Indian Orchard and later retired from Atlantic Valve in Westfield. A hard working man, he was a landlord for many years and was well-liked by his tenants. He continued to manage his properties on his own until his passing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, visiting the ocean and traveling with his wife to Europe. Most of all, he was a kind, gentle and humble man who had a zest for life and was always ready to assist family and friends with whatever they needed. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Jadwiga (Kmita) Sacuta. They were blessed with over 48 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Anna M. Collins and her husband, Thomas, of West Springfield, Julia S. Raymond and her husband, Stephen, of Topsfield, MA, Peter K. Sacuta of Chicopee and Paul M. Sacuta of West Palm Beach, FL; his six cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Natalie, Nadia and Nicole Collins and Lucien, Alexander and Marina Raymond; his dear brother, Stefan Sacuta of Westfield; and his many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended members of the Sacuta and Kmita families. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his two dear sisters, Galina Tabala and Sofia Smolina. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, July 15, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 346 Franklin Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His burial will follow the Mass at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For those who prefer, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 28 Underwood Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
