Lucy Ann Tutunjian of Milton and Harwich passed away peacefully at the age of 95 in the company of her loving family on Monday, July 3rd. Devoted mother of Linda Flaherty and her husband Paul Flaherty of Milton, Gregory Tutunjian of Newton and Roberta Tutunjian of Milton. She is also survived by her sister, Marion Tutunjian and her niece, Patricia Tutunjian of Canton.

Lucy was born in Chicago to Sadie and Herman Kazanjian in 1921 and within a few years, she and her family moved to the Woodside community of Queens, New York. Upon graduating from Hunter High School, Lucy enrolled in the freshman class of the newly-formed Queens College and was a member of the College’s first graduating class in 1941 .

In 1942, Lucy joined the Army Signal Corps Ground Signal Agency based at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Lucy and a small team traveled throughout the U.S. installing secure telephone lines for the Army. Lucy received the Emblem for Civilian Service Award in December of 1943 and an Efficiency Rating of Excellence in 1944.
Lucy married and moved to Dorchester, Massachusetts. Shortly after Linda’s birth, the family moved to Milton.
Lucy was active in the PTA and other organizations in the Town of Milton. Once her children became of age, Lucy accepted a position in the Business Office of Milton Hospital where she worked for 25 years.
Lucy and her family spent many years on Cape Cod settling in Harwich for the past 16 years. Lucy also enjoyed traveling with her daughters to Bermuda , the Caribbean and especially St. Martin .
Lucy had a great interest in archeology and English history. She was an avid reader. By watching the news and reading three newspapers daily, she was always ready for a good conversation regarding current events . Lucy’s weekly challenge was to complete the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle.
She would always be seen in Milton and Harwich walking her dear dog, Oscar.
She was the best.
Funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lucy’s memory to the Harwich Conservation Trust, P .O. Box 10, South Harwich, MA 02661 or to the Palliative Care Federation of Massachusetts, 20 Commercial Drive, Suite One, Wrentham, MA 02093 .
