Gerald Louis Showalter
6/22/2017

Gerald Louis Showalter was born on January 18, 1928 and on June 22, 2017 his earthly suffering came to an end. He was surrounded by his family and under the unmatchable care and grace extended by Heartland Hospice as well as the devoted staff at Miller’s Merry Manor (Chesterfield).

Gerald is now reunited with the love of his life Barbara Showalter, whom he lost on April 27th. The two were faithfully devoted to each other for 66 years and as evidenced by Gerald’s quick decline in health, deep love often yields powerful grief and a broken heart is sometimes too much to bear.

Gerald has also been reunited with his beloved son, Jim Showalter, who has been missed for eight years.

He is survived by his steadfast daughter and primary caregiver, Julia Kay Jeffers as well as his grandchildren, Brook (Troy) Hebner, Courtni Jeffers, Hannah Grace Showalter and his faithful dog, Kipper.

Gerald served in the Army and was stationed in Newfoundland during the Korean War. He was an exceptional high school basketball player. He also played on the Guide Lamp team as well as refereeing for the prison systems and the Harlem Globetrotters. Gerald was an avid golfer whose most prized memory was hitting a hole in one at Grandview.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 at South Meridian Church of God, 2402 Meridian St, Anderson, IN 46016. Visiting hours are from 4pm-6pm and a short service at the church will follow.
