Ruth E. Hill, 93 of Derry, NH died Wednesday June 21, 2017 at the Aurora Senior Living in Derry. Ruth was born in Derry on March 11, 1924 a daughter of the late Benjamin and Gertrude (Davis) Stevens. She had been a lifelong resident of Derry and East Derry. She was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry class of 1941. Ruth was employed as a switchboard operator for NE Telephone in Derry and later worked in Manchester. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a longtime member of Central Congregational Church in Derry. She had fond memories of her travels to Australia.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hines and her husband Joseph of Derry, three grandchildren, Michael Hines of Derry, Stephen Hines of Chester, NH, and Jeffrey Hines of Hooksett, NH, two great-grandchildren, Timothy Hines of Derry and Victoria Hines of Hooksett, as well as one niece and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert F. Hill in 2002.
A calling hour was held on Monday June 26, 2017 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services followed at 1:00pm in the funeral home. The burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry. Memorial donations may be made to Central Congregational Church, 14 Crescent St., Derry, NH 03038.
