Obituary

DIAMOND, Elsie M. (Shea), passed away on June 2, 2017. She was 93 years old. Born and raised in Northampton, Ma, she was the daughter of Bernard J. Shea and Emma Dauphanais Shea and the sister of the late Bernard E. Shea. She graduated from St. Michael's School in Northampton and continued her education at Northampton Commercial College. After graduation she went to Washington D.C. where she worked as an executive secretary. She married her husband, an air traffic controller bringing her to Winthrop where they made their home raising their family together for many years. When her children were young, Elsie was an active member of both the St. John the Evangelist Mothers' Club and the Winthrop Catholic Women’s' Club. For many years, she and her husband were members of the Cottage Park Yacht Club participating in youth sailing activities and the couples bowling league. Additionally she was an active participant in the women’s' bowling league. Elsie was the beloved wife of 59 years to the late John H.(Jack) Diamond, devoted mother of Susan Briggs and her husband, Bill, John B. Diamond and his wife, Melanie and Deborah Diamond, all of Winthrop. She was the cherished grandmother of Lori Briggs De Angelis and her husband Charlie of Westwood, Ma. William F. Briggs III and his wife Laurie of Charlotte, N.C., John Briggs and his wife Angie of Lynnfield, Ma., Danielle Flanagan and her husband Sean of Peabody, Ma., and John-Damien Diamond and his wife April of Cambridge, Ma. She was also the adored great-grandmother and lovingly called "Grandma Di" by her twelve great- grandchildren, Chad and John De Angelis, Will, Katie, Jake and Madison Briggs and J.D., Gianna and Patrick Briggs, Dylan and Sarah Flanagan and Luci Diamond. Elsie was the sister- in-law of Jacquelyn Diamond, Janet Devine, Mary Graves and Elizabeth Shea who had all predeceased her and an aunt to several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. WINTHROP, on Thurs, June 8 from 9:30-11am. A Funeral Mass will follow in the Church of St. John the Evangelist-Winthrop, with the Reverend Charles Bourke celebrating. Burial will be in the Winthrop Cemetery, Belle Isle Section.
