Obituary

Goyette, Edward O., Jr. Life long Dedham resident for 66 years, passed away on May 19, 2017. Edward was born in Boston, MA to the late Edward Goyette Sr. and the late Cesara (Celia) (Cesarini) Goyette. Beloved husband of the late Barbara M. (DeFelice) Goyette Sr., his loving wife for 68 years.

Edward is survived by his devoted daughter Mary and her husband Edward Mahoney of Dedham MA and his cherished sons, Russell of Franklin, MA, Kenneth of Newport, RI, Paul and his wife Maureen of Thornton, CO. and Eugene and his wife Karen of Dedham, MA, and son-in-law Thomas Dooling of Melrose, MA, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also his loving daughter the late Barbara, M. (Goyette) Jr. Dooling.

Dear brother of the late Lawrence (Larry) Goyette of Saugus, MA, and Raymond Goyette, and the late Olga Giannetti both of Melrose, MA.

Edward was a WWII Veteran in the U.S. Army Air Force, serving his country honorably from September 1940 till December 1945. He was stationed in North Carolina, Texas, Arizona, Mexico, Colorado, and Burma (Bombay) India with the 81st Bombardment Squadron.

Edward competed on a national level till 1956 and for several years was a New England Champion. He held a National Record lifting double his body weight in the light weight division. Ed was inducted in to the Weightlifting Hall of Fame in 1993.

Edward worked for the Watertown Arsenal Intelligence Security Office, the US. Naval Hospital in Chelsea, Ma, and worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jamaica Plain, until his retirement in 1982.

Edward and his wife enjoyed their winters for more than twenty years in Melbourne, Florida. He was an avid gardener, had an amusing sense of humor, was a wonderful story storyteller. He had a great love for all the New England Sport Teams. It was a proud moment in his life when he was able to witness the Red Sox and Patriots win National Champions.

Edward was a member of the Jacob Jones of foreign Wars Post #2017, and the American Legion Post #18.

Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 465 High St. Dedham, MA on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited to honor Edward at a Funeral Mass at St Mary's Church, 420 High St. Dedham, MA Wednesday, May 24 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
