Obituary

Petersen, Jean R. formerly of Wellesley Hills, and spouse of the late Clinton A. Petersen, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 after a prolonged illness at her residence at Lasell Village, Auburndale, MA. Jean was born in Baltimore, MD, daughter of the late Lillian and Neill Michael. Growing up she attended schools in Maryland, Georgia, and Florida before graduating from Cranston High School in Cranston, RI. Following her college graduation at Lasell College, she worked as a dietitian at the college until her marriage to Clinton Petersen. Before she and her husband moved to Lasell Village in 2002, she and Clinton were Wellesley residents since the end of World War II.

Throughout her life Jean was active in a number of activities including work as a receptionist at the Metrowest Leonard Morse Medical Center in Natick, and as an archivist at Lasell College. Jean was an active member of the Lasell College Corporation and was a recipient of a Lasell Medallion Award in recognition of her many and varied volunteer activities. She and her husband were members of several ballroom dance organizations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and their skill in this area was widely recognized by winning of a number of dance awards for their talents.

Jean was pre-deceased by her husband Clinton, daughter Andrea, and daughter-in-law, Betty. She is survived by her son, Wayne, of Hanson.

Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 477 Washington St. (Rt 16) Wellesley, Thursday, May 18 from 5-8pm. A private interment will take place at Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD, with a memorial service to be held at a later date at Lasell Village, Auburndale, MA. Memorial gifts may be made to the Brennan Library of Lasell College, Commonwealth Ave., Auburndale, MA 02466.
