Barbara Ann Mahoney
5/13/2017

Barbara Ann Mahoney was born in Woburn in 1920 she entered into eternal rest on May 13, 2017. She graduated from Woburn High School in 1937. She was a field hockey player and a cheerleader.

In the past few weeks she would entertain her great grandchildren with the Woburn High fight
song from the 1930’s. She was the last of seven children of the late Alonzo and Winifred (Foley) O’Brien.

She married Edward T. Mahoney in March of 1945. He was a first lieutenant in the Navy having
just returned from the invasion of Normandy and on his way to the war in the Pacific. They
were married almost 60 years when he passed away in 2004. They raised four children, were
blessed with thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Just a coincidence they
were all special! There were two major tenants of Barbara’s life, her family and her faith. Her
life was devoted to her entire family. She gave us all unconditional love. The highlight of our
year was Thanksgiving dinner where about 35 members of three generations would gather to
share a meal and give thanks for our blessings.

Barbara was an intelligent and well read woman. She was a daily reader of the Globe and the
Times. She watched the news on TV as well as the Catholic Mass every day. She was born
before women had the right to vote and was happy last November to vote for the first woman
on the ballot for president.

From the love she gave us all and the faith that she demonstrated in her life, we her entire
family have always felt blessed.

Barbara is survived by her devoted children, Edward T. Mahoney, Jr. and his wife Ellen of Mashpee, Richard J. Mahoney and his wife Brendar of Woburn, Mary Ann Moynihan and her husband Chip of Hampton, NH, Nancy Harris and her husband Brian of Boston. She is also lovingly survived by her thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Sister of the late Winifred F. O’Brien, Alonzo O’Brien, Joseph E. O’Brien, Mary A. Sears, Philip H. O’Brien, and Elinor L. Donohue.
