SWANSEA – Edward " Chief " Pereira, age 83 of Swansea, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center. Born in Furnas, São Miguel, Açores, he was the beloved husband of the late Virginia (Barreira) Pereira and the son of the late Antone Couto Pereira & Rosalie (Saraiva) Pereira. Prior to retiring, Edward was the Owner / Operator of Edward Pereira & Son Inc. He was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Swansea, and the President of the Açoreana Band Club & the President of the Fall River Sports Club for many years.
He is survived by his daughter Deolinda M. Silva (husband Deodato John) of Somerset and son Antone C. Pereira (wife Maria Fatima) of East Providence; grandchildren Aislynne Nichole Venancio, Nathan Edward Silva, Noah Stone Pereira, Mackenzie Poco, and Brianna Poco; great-grandchildren: Chaeli Lynne, Layla Elizabeth and Julian Michael Venancio; his sister: Normanda Camara of Westport; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Laura Ferreira, Ormenzinda Cidade & Francisco Pereira.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 7:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Swansea at 9:00 A.M.
