Obituary

Madieros “Marty” Mooshagian, 89, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital.

Mr. Mooshagian was born in Worcester on March 10, 1928, a son of the late Hampartzoom and Annahid (Avedisian) Mooshagian. He attended Commerce High School and following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy on December 29, 1946. In 1947, he attended the College of The Holy Cross and was a member of the ROTC Unit where he graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. He then served aboard the USS NEW JERSEY (BB-62) in Korea. Later he received his Master’s in Education from Clark University.

Mr. Mooshagian began his career teaching English for the Town of Oxford. He briefly taught at Forest Grove Junior High School before beginning a 25-year career at Burncoat Senior High School where he taught Mathematics. He was also the Math Team coach.

Mr. Mooshagian was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour where he was active on the Parish Council, the Church Choir, Knights of Vartan, and the Sunday School. He enjoyed traveling throughout the country with his family and was a proud Korean War Veteran. He held memberships with the Korean War Veterans Association, the VFW Post 406 in Newport, RI, the Disabled American Veterans, Rhode Island Chapter 15 and the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. During his younger years, he was an avid golfer and achieved a hole-in-one at Packachoag Golf Course.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary (Bagdasarian) Mooshagian; a son, Mark Mooshagian of Newport, RI; a daughter, Melanie E. Picard and her husband, Richard Jr., of West Hartford, CT; three grandchildren, John S. Mooshagian of Tiverton, RI; Renee M. and Justin R. Picard of West Hartford, CT; nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

He is predeceased by a daughter, Marcia A. Mooshagian in December of 2016 and four siblings, Nishan Meenasian, Mary Anusbigian, Katherine Balian and Ann Karakehian.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, May 13th from 9:00am until 10:30am in the CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01605.
