Donald A. Steele, age 86, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Buecker) Steele, to whom he was wed on November 6, 1963.
Born in Cambridge, MA on August 25, 1930, he was a loving son of the late George and Jessica (Duncan) Steele.
Don grew up in Boston and was educated in Boston public schools. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Steele had worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for thirty years and retired with the position of Assistant Chief Engineer at MCI Norfolk.
Donald had made his home in Mansfield for the past fifty-one years, where he enjoyed farming at his residence in East Mansfield. He also enjoyed keeping up on worldwide events, sporting events, traveling and was fluent in several foreign languages.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted sons Mark A. Steele of Mansfield and Frank G. Steele and his wife Ingrid of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Ian Steele, Aiden Steele, Liam Steele and Eva Steele. He was the dear brother of Barbara Hart of Jamaica Plain, and the late John Steele and Jeannie Nadroski. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services as well as burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
