Arlene (Lonergan) Howard, age 77, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her adoring family on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in the comfort of her home. She was the beloved wife of Robert G. Howard, Jr., to whom she was wed on August 13, 1971.
Born in Attleboro, MA on May 17, 1939, she was a loving daughter of the late Patrick J. and Irene P. (Jacobs) Lonergan.
Arlene grew up in Mansfield and was a graduate of Mansfield High School. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker to her treasured family, she had previous worked at the Foxboro Company and at the former Delmonte’s Variety Store in Mansfield.
Arlene was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. Her love of family was the focal point of Arlene’s life. She had a special place in her heart for animals and enjoyed the companionship of her dear cat “Scroogie”. She also enjoyed reading, loved roses and when younger, playing card games with friends.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her devoted and loving son Patrick J. Howard of Mansfield. She is also survived by many dear cousins in the United States, as well as in Ireland.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a prayer service on Monday, May 8th at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Center Cemetery in Wrentham.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 7th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Arlene’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 1324 Belmont St., #204, Brockton, MA 02301.
