Josephine C. Cassata, of Worcester formerly of Burlington and Arlington passed away peacefully, April 29, 2017, at the UMASS Memorial Medical Center following a lengthy period of declining health. She was 73 years of age. Josephine was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore Cassata and together they shared 47 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2010. Born in Boston, Josephine was the only child of the late Angelo and Eliza (Sorrentino) Tringale.

Josephine was raised and educated in Dorchester and graduated high school in 1961. A devoted wife and mother, nothing gave Josephine more joy than to be surrounded by her family for Sunday diners and celebrating holidays and special events. Coming from a family of commercial fishermen, Josephine loved the ocean and for many years spending vacations with family in Wareham, MA. In her leisure time she enjoyed ceramics, always looking for that next bargain while shopping, and the occasional trip to the casino to try her luck at the slots. Josephine also enjoyed regular get togethers with her cousins and extended family.

Josephine is lovingly survived by her devoted children, Salvatore Cassata, Jr. of Billerica, Theresa Cohen and her husband Michael of Holden, Gaetano Cassata and his wife Patricia of Everett, Ginamarie Cassata of Marietta, GA, and Michael Cassata and his wife Melissa of Worcester. She was the loving grandmother of Jystina, Jaclyn, Joseph, Kaitlyn, Michael Jr. and Mark Cassata, Mathew and Ethan Cohen. Further survived by many dear cousins and extended family.

Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Saturday, May 6th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Josephine's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 381051942.
