Carl Maynard McAllister Jr., age 72, of Sandown, NH passed away quietly on April 22, 2017.
Carl was born March 6, 1945 in Richford, VT. The third child of Carl Sr. and Audrey, Carl Jr. was the first boy and soon became known as ‘Sonny’. Three more siblings followed and Sonny grew up in Charlestown, NH. Sports was a nice distraction from the farm. Basketball brought great success and lead Carl to Plymouth State College in 1963. After college, Carl went on to teach, earned his Master’s Degree, and eventually became Principal at an Elementary School in Salem, NH. Carl left North Salem Elementary to work for Teradyne Industries in Nashua, NH. Soon after, Carl became manager of the human resources department for Hadco Corporation in Derry, NH.
Carl was married to Elaine (Bechok) McAllister for 20+ years and had one son, Corey, in 1965. Carl and Elaine divorced and Carl married Sharon (Vartanian) McAllister in 1995.
Carl became wheelchair bound when an unexpected illness took away the use of his legs in 1987. Refusing to let that hold him back, Carl was an assistant coach of the Pinkerton Academy Boys JV basketball team for a number of years. Carl remained an active supporter of Pinkerton Academy athletics for many years after the graduation of his son in 1983.
Carl became an avid television viewer while at home. When you came to visit, the mornings were usually black and white classics, westerns ruled. The afternoons and evenings were devoted to sports. Basketball, baseball and hockey were ok, but Football trumped everything. The New York Giants have a footprint throughout the house. Games would be watched on Sundays and re-watched during the week until the next game was on the following Sunday. Carl very much enjoyed his numerous trips to Giants Stadium to see several games live.
Carl is predeceased by his father, Carl Sr., and two siblings Judy Szuch and Sandi Casey. Carl is survived by his mother Audrey, his loving wife Sharon, siblings Gwen Jones, Jean Letnow and Steve McAllister. Carl is also survived by his son Corey and his wife, Gigi and his three grandchildren Madisen, Molly and T.J.
Memorial Calling Hours were held on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 at Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH from 1-4pm.
