Mary Rita (Arsenault) Demeule, 86, of Manchester, NH and formerly of Salem, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center in Manchester. She was the devoted wife of the late Wilfred R. Demeule, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.
Mary was born on May 30, 1930 in Tignish, Prince Edward Island, Canada, daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (Poirier) Arsenault. She was one of five children, two brothers, Alfred and Junior and two sisters, Jeannette and Leona. When Mary was in her teens, she worked as an aid at a Catholic Hospital in Alberton, PEI. In her 20’s, she came to the United States where in the early 1950’s she met and married Wilfred Demeule of Salem. She became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. in the late 1950’s and spent most of her life as a stay at home Mom, taking care of her family. She did, at times, work outside their home, from waitressing at Andy’s Restaurant on Jefferson Ave in the 1960’s to working at the food court at the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers in the ‘80’s.
Mary and her husband bought their one and only home in Salem in 1977, where they lived until Wilfred passed away in 2014. Mary then moved into assisted living at Villa Crest to be closer to her sons. One of Mary’s great loves was flower arranging, at which she was quite talented.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard of Londonderry, NH and Alfred and his wife Cheryl of Raymond, NH; her grandchildren, Shawn, Amy, Kristine, Kenlyn and Gregory and her great-grandchildren, Carter, Liliana and Elijah.
