Joseph R. Fortier, age 89, of Brockton, died April 14, 2017 at the Brockton VA Medical Center. Joe was the husband of Eleanor M. (Goodrich) Fortier. He was born in Unionville, CT, the son of the late Joseph and Mariette (Talmadge) Fortier. He was an Army veteran of WWII and had been a resident of Brockton since 1960. Joe was employed by Perket Folding Box of Hyde Park for 34 years and the Brockton and West Roxbury VA Medical Centers for 13 years before retiring. He loved family and Boston sports. Joe enjoyed puttering around his house and yard. He was a member of the America Legion.
Joe is also survived by his children Edward R. Fortier and his wife Carol of Braintree, Kimberly A. Hicks and her husband Peter of Braintree, Greg J. Fortier and his wife Janet of Hanover and Mark D. Fortier and his wife Karen of Santa Clarita, CA; nine grandchildren Joseph, Marie, Jacob, Hannah, Joel, Isabella, Anthony, Jonathan and Christopher; one great granddaughter Caroline; a sister Patricia Quillin of Plymouth; and many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Edward Fortier and Eleanor East.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday 4-6:30pm followed by a funeral service at 6:30pm. Please consider donations in Joe's name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
