Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather,
Great Grandfather, Age 92, WWII Veteran
Passed away April 11, 2017. Preceded in death by parents Harold & Martha; sister Marion Buchman; great granddaughter Megan Kneip; son-in-law Bob Knutson; nephew Brad Irwin. Survived by wife of 69 years, Genevieve; daughters Maria Knutson & Melissa Kneip (William Jr.); grandchildren Jeff Knutson (Ryanne), Angela Grotte (Bryan), Joe Knutson (Tanya), Tony, Jodie, Becky & Nicole Kneip; great grandchildren Trey, Aaron, Katelyn, Kaleigh, Tyler & Mara. He was a member of the 43rd Infantry Division, having served on several South Pacific Islands including New Caledonia, New Zealand, New Guinea, the liberation of the Philippine Islands & the occupation of Japan. He was awarded several decorations including the Combat Infantry Badge & the Purple Heart. He was a member & Past President of the Morse Telegraph Club, having worked for Great Northern Railway as an Agent, Telegrapher & Relay Telegrapher for 24 years. He worked for St. Paul & Suburban Bus Co. for 24 years starting as a part-time bus driver & retired as it's President in 1986. He loved golf & was a member of Indian Hills Golf Club, was an avid hunter & fisherman. After his retirement, he volunteered for Meals On Wheels, American Red Cross, was a 60 year part-time instructor for the DNR in Firearm Safety programs & an active member of the VFW Post 1350 & American Legion Post 39 in North St. Paul. He was an accomplished wood carver & member of the MN Woodcarvers Assn. & Viking Woodcarvers Club. Funeral service Thursday (4/20) 11:00 AM at GUARDIAN ANGELS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 8260 - 4th St. N, Oakdale. Interment Guardian Angels Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 4-7 PM at SANDBERG FUNERAL HOME, 2593 E. 7th Ave., North St. Paul, & one hour prior to service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
