Black, Mary E. (Green), age 86, of Milton, passed away peacefully in Lakeville in her loving family’s care on April 8, 2017. Born and raised in Lower Mills, Dorchester, she was a graduate of St. Gregory Grammar School and High School, Class of 1948. An operator of New England Tel. & Tel., she retired in 1965 having worked in Hyde Park, Quincy and Arlington. She was a member of Our Lady of the Way Telephone Worker’s Guild and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mrs. Black was proud of her Irish Heritage, as both her parents were originally from Ireland. Accompanied by her daughter, Janet, she had the opportunity to visit Ireland while traveling to the British Isles to see her daughter Eileen, who was spending a semester in England. Mrs. Black was devoted to her family and her faith. She was the founder and longtime supporter of St. Agatha Church Respect Life Committee.
The beloved wife of the late Robert F. Black, she is survived by her devoted daughters, Janet M. Plonka & her husband Christopher of Lakeville and Eileen F. Wilkins and her husband Rick of Trumbull, CT. She was the cherished grandmother of Suzanne E. Plonka, Olivia R. & Madeline M. and the late Emma Grace Wilkins. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agatha Church, 432 Adams St., Milton, Wednesday, April 12th at 10:30 am. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Tuesday, April 11th from 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Island Terrace Nursing Home, Activities Dept., 57 Long Point Rd., Lakeville, MA 02347.
