Obituary

Mr. Charles A. Keenan, a lifelong resident of Lawrence and beloved husband of the late Mary V. (Sheehy) passed away at the Mary Immaculate Nursing Center in Lawrence on Tuesday morning, April 4, 2017. He was 93 years old.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on January 13, 1924, he was the beloved son of the late Charles F. and Julia (Qualters) Keenan. Mr. Keenan was a WWII Marine veteran, entering the military on September 17, 1942 at Boston and receiving his honorable discharge from Bainbridge, Maryland on January 12, 1946. Charles had seen action Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, Saipan and Tinian in the Northern Mariana Islands and Iwo Jima. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in action on March 6, 1945. While serving on the Marines, Mr. Keenan attained the rank of PVT, C1.
In civilian life, Charles had worked as a Firefighter for the City of Lawrence. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to the beach, all sports and spending time with his family and friends. He also cared for his mother in her later years. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving sister; Kathleen Brennan of Methuen and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Eileen J. Alsup.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Corpus Christi Church, 34 Common Street, Lawrence, on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visitation will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, on Wednesday, prior to the mass from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. Interment will be held in the St. Mary Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence. Donations in Charles' memory may be made to the Mary Immaculate Nursing Center, 172 Lawrence St., Lawrence, MA 01841.
