Obituary

Eleanor S. Cochran Age 89, died April 7, 2017.Long-time resident of Carlisleand Tiverton, RI.She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald, and brother and sister-in-law, August and Margaret Sapega, and is survived by daughters Judith of Seattle, Janet (Fred Rosenberg) of New York City, Jennifer (Ralph Timperi) of Hyde Park,and Joan (Matthew Crellin) of St. Paul; grandchildren Michael Crellin (Alexandra), Theodore Crellin (Emily), CorbyJohnson, Evan Timperi, Evie Rosenberg, and Noah Rosenberg; and nieces Elizabeth Lesnikoski and Ellen Sapega. Herlife was enrichedby Allegra and Zachary Wilson, Jeff and Meg Timperi, andBeth Timperi, and their beautiful children.

She was born April 26, 1927, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to August and Ellen (Petrusauskaite) Sapega. A graduate of Russell Sage College, she taught at Chatham Hall School for two years. She married Donald L. Cochran on May 12, 1951, in Bridgeport. Immediately after that, they drove across the country to California, where he was stationed in the Navy. After his Navy service was concluded, they moved to Maryland and then to Carlisle in 1959. She served as Town Clerk of Carlisle from 1966 to 1989, a role to which she brought a sharp intellect and an unshakable commitment to democracy.

Her daughters extend deepest gratitude to the staff of Newbridge on the Charles for the extraordinary care they provided.Services are private; memorial gifts may be made to Gleason Public Library in Carlisle. www.lawlerfuneral home.com
