Obituary

WAREHAM: J. Douglas “Dougie” Wright, age 53, formerly of Natick, died on Sunday morning, April 2, 2017, at Tobey Hospital after being stricken at his Wareham home.

Born, raised and educated in Natick, he was a son of the late Virginia Lucy and Richard Franklin Wright. Doug was an exceptional baseball player and was selected for the Boston Globe Baseball All Scholastics Team during his Natick High School senior year in 1982. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications at UMass Amherst, where he was voted Most Valuable Player by his teammates on the UMass baseball team.

Doug loved to be outdoors, equally at home camping or enjoying a day at the beach. His choice to work with trees, plants, and shrubbery with Windy-Lo Nursery in Natick was a great fit and he was employed with the company for many years. Doug stayed involved in landscape design and maintenance for the remainder of his time in Natick and worked with various landscape contractors. He moved to Wareham two years ago.

He is survived by his four older brothers, R. Spencer Wright of Somerville, Steven M. Wright and his wife Susan of Kauai, HI, Philip C. Wright of Wayland and Jeffrey B. Wright of Charleston, NH; eleven nieces and nephews, and a grandniece.

There will be a casual celebration of Doug’s life on Sunday, April 30th starting at 1:00PM at the Parkwood Beach Community House, 23 Datewood Street, Wareham.

Donations may be made in Douglas’ memory to Hope Floats, 4 Elm Street, Kingston, MA 02364 (www.hopefloatswellness.org/donate).
