Michael G. "Mike" Heady

LONGMEADOW – Michael G. “Mike” Heady, 64, of Longmeadow, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, April 6, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Palmer on June 13, 1952, the beloved son of the late Marjorie R. (Gleason) Heady, his late adoptive father, Philip Heady, and his late biological father, George Pepin. He was raised in Wilbraham and Springfield and graduated from Classical High School in Springfield. He moved to Longmeadow in 1979 where he lived the remainder of his life. He furthered his education and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He was employed by the Pillsbury Company for 25 years and later worked for Conagra Foods for 12 years as a Key Account Manager. Mike was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his family at his cottage on Queen Lake in Phillipston. An avid sports fan, Mike could often be seen at his son, Michael’s, baseball and hockey games. Always the life of a party, Mike had a wonderful personality, was able to make everyone laugh and also made friends with just about anyone he came in contact with. Above all, he was a loving husband and father who showered his family with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Mary J. (Lilly) Heady. They were married on May 21, 1977 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 39 years of happiness together. Mike also leaves his two loving children, Christine M. Heady and Michael G. Heady, both of Longmeadow; his two dear brothers-in-law, John Lilly and his wife, Sheila, of Bonita Springs, FL and Thomas Lilly and his wife, Cathy, of Springfield; his four nieces, Jennifer, Annemarie, Karin and Cindy; his nephew, John; his several grand nephews and grand nieces; and his many dear friends and extended members of the Heady and Lilly families. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, April 10, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), which will be followed by a 10 a.m. Prayer Service at the funeral home. His burial will follow the Prayer Service at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. For those who prefer, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Spectrum Hospice, 770 Converse Street, Longmeadow, MA 01106 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
