Rita M. (Geoffroy) Plouffe

CHICOPEE – Rita M. (Geoffroy) Plouffe, 99, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, March 24, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home in Chicopee on November 18, 1917, a beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Maria (Lussier) Geoffroy. She graduated from Saint Joan of Arc School and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. During the past two years, Rita lived with her daughter, Jeannine and son-in-law, Donald. She was employed for 16 years by the Diocese of Springfield at the former Saint George Rectory in Chicopee. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she was a member of the Ladies of Sainte Anne Sodality. She loved dancing with her favorite partner, her late husband, Pete, and she often enjoyed playing bingo with her many friends. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed cooking many wonderful meals. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Venance “Pete” Plouffe who was Called Home on July 1, 2005. They were married on June 5, 1937 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 68 years of happiness together. She leaves her beloved daughter, Jeannine B. Turgeon and her husband, Donald, of Chicopee; her four cherished grandchildren, Catherine A. Grenier and her husband, Christopher, Michelle L. Cyran and her husband, Anthony, Donald J. Turgeon and his wife, Robin, and Susan M. Kurpaska and her husband, Lawrence, all of Chicopee; her eight cherished great-grandchildren; her ten cherished great-great-grandchildren; her two dear sisters-in-law, Estelle Geoffroy of Chicopee and Jane Geoffroy of Florida; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her beloved infant son, Donald; her five dear brothers, Victor, Telesphore, Roland, Alfred and Napoleon Geoffroy; and her three dear sisters, Theresa and Marguerite Geoffroy and Germaine Rakouskas. Her family would like to thank Dr. Mohan Rao and his staff for their dedicated care they showed to Rita. They also wish to thank the staff at Mass. Elder Care, Mass Resources, Mercy Home Health Care and Mercy Hospice for all they did to assist Rita and her family. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located at the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
