FEEDING HILLS – Paul A. Joseph, 89, of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on November 19, 1927, a beloved son of the late, Albert Joseph and Katherine J. (Lewis) Joseph. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from local schools and lived in the city for many years before moving to Feeding Hills in 1969. He furthered his education and in 1949, received a Bachelor’s Degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston. He then attended American International College in Springfield and in 1952, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy, where he attained the rank of Hospital Corpsman Third Class at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. Following his military service, he returned to Springfield and worked as a Pharmacist for several pharmacies in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts and last worked at the former Spring Street Drug Store. During his leisure time, Paul enjoyed woodworking and puttering around his home with various projects. He loved being outside and especially working on his yard. Paul loved his many trips with his wife and family to Ogunquit, Maine which was his favorite vacation spot. He was also known as a “Master Hot Fudge Sundae Maker” by all his family and friends. Paul was very proud of his Lebanese heritage and was a faithful communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield where he served his parish as a weekly greeter, a member of the church auditing committee and a member of the Bible study group. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather who showered his family with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves the love of his life, the apple of his eye and his best friend, his beloved wife, Sheila E. (Skaff) Joseph. They were married on November 12, 1966 at Saint George Orthodox Church in Grand Rapids, MI and were blessed with over 50 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving and amazing children, Paul S. Joseph and his wife, Sherry, of Woodbine, MD, Anthony A. Joseph of Hopkington, MA and Susan E. Joseph of Towson, MD; and his six cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Olivia, Noah, Luke and Grace Joseph and Sophia and Elijah Joseph. He will be missed by his many close friends including his Saint George family and his Fitness First friends. Besides his parents and five siblings, he was also predeceased by his loving daughter-in-law, Lisa Joseph who was Called Home on August 6, 2014; and his dear brother-in-law, Dr. Michael Skaff who was Called Home on June 18, 2010. Above all, we thank God for His faithfulness and mercy. His relatives and friends are invited to go directly to Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107 on Thursday, March 9, 2017 where Paul will Lie in State from 10 a.m. until 12 noon followed by a Funeral Service at 12 noon. His Committal Service will follow with United States Navy Military Honors at 2 pm in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
