Mary J. (Smith) Mainville

WESTFIELD – Mary J. (Smith) Mainville, 82, of Westfield and a former longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, March 2, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Cantril, Iowa on April 6, 1934, a beloved daughter of the late Albert P. and Edna May (Magorian) Smith. She was raised in Cantril and Ottumwa, Iowa and graduated from Saint Mary Catholic High School in Ottumwa. She lived in San Jose, California for many years before moving to Chicopee in 1957. She later lived in Ludlow before moving to Westfield around 2008. She was employed for several years as an Office and Inventory Control Supervisor at Embassy Trim, a subsidiary of the William E. Wright Company in West Warren. Mary was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. During her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, watching her birds and gardening. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Rene A. Mainville. They were married at Saint Leo the Great Church in San Jose, California on November 22, 1956 and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. She also leaves her four loving children, Raymond A. Mainville of Belchertown, Robert G. Mainville and his wife, Jennifer, of Pawtucket, RI, Sandra A. “Sandy” Prewett and her husband, Kit, of Southwick and Steven E. Mainville and his wife, Nancy, of Sarasota, FL; her eight cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Kaitlyn Mainville, Jessica Hobbs and her husband, Mike, Travis Mainville, Amber Lamontagne, Taylor Prewett, Jacob Prewett, Riley Prewett and Samantha Mainville; her dear brother, Donald Smith and his wife, Ruth, of Agency, IA; her dear sister-in-law, Diane Nawrocki and her husband, Geno, of Wilbraham; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Mainville and Smith families. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her three dear brothers, Lester, Raymond and Kenneth Smith; and her dear sister, Lois Martin. Her family will receive friends at visiting hours on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 8 a.m. (Family Meeting Directly) at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will be private at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 506 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Greater CT/Western Mass.
