Obituary

Margaret R. (Mara) Kane, of Boston, Massachusetts passed away at the Faulkner Hospital on February 23, 2017. She was 97 years old.
Margaret was born and raised in Jamaica Plain. She was the beloved wife of the late William F. Kane, and the loving mother of Elizabeth Kane of West Roxbury, William Kane and his wife Adele of North Easton, Paula Kane of Virginia, John Kane and his wife Deborah of Franklin, the late Martha Vano and her late husband Eugene of Texas, and Patricia McElligott and her husband James of Melrose. She cherished her grandchildren: Andrea Hindin and her husband Phil, Peter Kane and his wife Michele, Will Vano, Mark Vano, Kyle Vano, Emma Vano, Matthew Kane, Ashley Kane, Daniel McElligott, and Michael McElligott, and her greatgrandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, and Zachary Hindin, Kolette, Bridger and Callum Kane.
Her siblings included the late Catherine Tracy, the late Eleanor Mara, the late John Mara, the late Philip Mara, the late Loretta Mara, the late Francis Mara, and the late Thomas Mara, and she is survived by her devoted twin sister, Mary Kelliher in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Margaret had a love of gardening, yoga, needlework, and community activism. She was generous with her time and talents to her family, friends and neighbors. Donations may be made in Margaret’s name to The Trustees of the Public Library of the City of Boston, 700 Boylston Street, Boston MA 02116, for children’s programming and resources.
A Mass and burial will take place May 31, 2017.
